Lubrication Systems

FULL SPEED AHEAD!

The bearings and seals supplied by Maprom Engineering are fully water lubricated. No additional inhibitors are necessary for good functioning of the bearings and seals.
Water is an excellent and always available lubricant that cannot pollute the environment. Unlike oil lubrication, water is inherent environmentally safe. The water, which enters the bearings, will be distributed over the bearing surface by the rotating shaft creating a hydrodynamic water film (aquaplaning) between shaft (liner) and bearing resulting in a minimum of friction and wear. The specially designed water grooves in- and/or the flat land design of the bearing enables sufficient flow to create soonest the hydrodynamic lubricating film, ensuring complete lubrication and cooling of the bearing.
Likewise, the Maprom GS seals benefit from the same design philosophy to effectively extend the life time of the wear parts.

Simple to state of the art Lub-systems
Depending on application and owners preference, Maprom supplies cover lubrication parts delivery up to fully automatic controlled systems.

The general functioning of the bearing relies on the continuous availability of sufficient water flowing through the system.Depending on the application, the bearings can be lubricated by Natural flow, Forced flow open systems and/or Forced flow closed system.

In an open system, outboard water is used for lubrication in the same way as in a closed system. The difference between an open and closed system is that the open system uses outboard water. An optional Maprom MK-separator in the open system water circuit will filter out abrasive particles like sand and dirt.
In a closed system, fresh water will be pumped around from the water tank, via piping, through the bearings and seals and back to the water tank. Clean water will increase the lifetime of the bearings and seals. Closed systems often are installed to benefit from less corrosion resistant propeller shafts in seawater applications.
