The Maprom GS Seal was developed by Maprom Engineering in order to meet the increasing demand for an efficient, reliable and environmentally sound water lubricated propeller shaft seal for commercially operated vessels. This unique water lubricated seal works in axial direction. The most important advantage of an axial seal is the absence of wear on the propeller shaft. The Maprom GS Seal is available for both inboard and outboard sealing purposes.
Sealing element
For both the GS Inboard Seal as well as the GS Outboard Seal the unique sealing elements are identical in design. The elements made of high quality NBR rubber are characterized by a superb durability and design. The special profile of the sealing element incorporates more than one function:
- Dirt repellent sealing element
- Pressure repellent sealing element
- Mechanical thrust shoulder
- Bearing lubricant passages
- Over pressure/venting and self lubricating features
Easy Maintenance
The sealing element is designed in such a way that it can be bonded around the shaft in-situ without withdrawal of the propeller shaft enabling maintenance and replacement at sea. For that purpose the inboard GS Seal is supplied with an integrated inflatable sealing section so that maintenance can be carried out at sea, without the need for dry-docking. The split type cover (counter running surface) has an integrated second lifetime after re-machining thus reducing (on board) spares.

Apart from standard executions, Maprom delivers custom built seals such as split type outboard seals, galvanic isolated seals (for aluminum hulls) etc.
